On August 20, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced its largest fentanyl bust in department history. KCTV5 spoke with our Chief Clinical Officer, Talina Nelson, about the dangers of this pervasive drug and its impact in our community. Beyond sharing how fatal fentanyl can be, Talina explained how Beacon assists the sheriff’s office with substance use services for those struggling with addiction.

“We have some funding from the state that provides opioid response,” said Talina. “We have medication assistance treatment here, we have outpatient therapy, group therapy, and we also do a lot with youth prevention in schools and community coalitions.”

Beacon Mental Health partners directly with local law enforcement to provide these services to those in Clay, Platte and Ray counties…“to ensure that the officers have support and guidance from mental health professionals when there is some kind of mental health crisis or substance use issue in the community,” Talina continued. “Those liaisons will go out in the community with the law enforcement officers and try to address any crisis that might come up.”
