Helping older adults build their own playbook for aging well

This class will meet for 12 consecutive weeks, beginning Friday, July 13.  Each class will meet from 11:30 am – 1 pm and will include lunch. The topics covered in the AMP curriculum are designed to promote healthy aging as you take care of yourself and your loved one.

This class emphasizes the importance of small, consistent changes over time leading to mastery of healthy habits.  All are welcome to join the Aging Mastery Program for Caregivers!  There is a class max of 20 participants so be sure to register soon and spread the word to others who may be interested in attending.

 

The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) was founded by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) as a means of offering practical strategies to empower others to age well.  This current session will focus on offering support to those who are in a caregiver role to an older adult loved one.

Annual banquet and fundraiser – former Washington Post reporter and author, Pete Earley to speak

The 28th Annual Tri-County Mental Health Services Banquet and Fundraiser will feature keynote speaker and former Washington Post reporter and author, Pete Earley, who will address the state of mental health in the United States as well the breakdown of the justice system in dealing with people with mental disorders.

The banquet will be at 6 p.m. Monday, August 20 at the Argosy Casino.

Pete Earley is the author of 11 nonfiction book, including four New York Times bestsellers. He is best known for his nonfiction book, CRAZY: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness, which was one of two finalists for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. CRAZY describes Earley’s struggle to get his adult son help after he develops a severe mental illness and is arrested. Earley spent ten months inside the Miami Dade County jail where he followed persons with mental disorders through the criminal justice system and out onto the streets to see what happened to them.

In addition to Pete Earley’s talk, the banquet will include dinner, awards and recognition of one of Tri-County’s outstanding consumers.
