Get to know Shelley Goode (AKA Shelley Bad), our Front Desk Manager.
How long have you worked at Tri-County? 7 years – it feels like it been longer but not in a bad way!
What do you like to do in your free time? I like going to my church, outdoor music/festival events, visiting historical homes/cemeteries, container gardening and am always looking for a new true crime podcast or documentary. Recently, I adopted a super cute cat that I named Dori. She is still getting used to a new home and we are getting to know each other a little more every day.
Who do you look up to and why? My maternal grandparents. They were a perfect example of the greatest generation of America. I had them in my life for over five decades and they were a very positive influence on me. I am so thankful that I was given them to be my grandparents because they were exactly what I needed. They are a hard act to follow even for a really great mom and dad.
What’s your pet peeve? Drivers that should be in the slow lane. Especially when they are in the fast lane and in front of me.
What does a perfect Saturday in Kansas City look like? I’d check out a KC historic site or go to an outdoor music event. Then I’d go to my favorite restaurant, Axios and order my favorite thing to eat, Escargot.
Tell me about an interesting brush with fame or amazing truth about yourself. At sixteen, my first job was working at the Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs. Ricky Nelson (from way back in the day) was staying at the hotel. He ordered room service and I got to take it to his room. I could tell that he wasn’t impressed with the pen that I handed him to sign for his room service. I still have that pink Hello Kitty pen.
Do you have a favorite book or movie and why? I recently read this book for the 2nd time, so it’s a favorite. The Hiding Place – autobiography by Corrie ten Boom. It’s about a Dutch family during WWII, who were caught hiding Jews and were sent to a concentration camp.
