Did you know sitting still all day long leads to loss of flexibility, strength, and eventually functionality?

COVID-19 has made many of us completely change our exercise routines with limited access to the gym. Physical distancing means we have to stay home, but you can still warm up your body with some seated, dynamic movement to music.

Seated movements are wonderful for a break from the work day, a midnight stretch break from a favorite show or movie, or to intentionally move your body. With limited places to go, movement is crucial for older adults, but sometimes it can be difficult to get motivated when at home.

Try using music to increase your satisfaction and dopamine levels in your brain while exercising. It will make a strenuous task a bit more enjoyable. Check out this Dynamic Movement to Music Video for older adults from Missouri Show Me Hope.

Remember to get up and move your body regularly for your physical and mental health. This pandemic will not last forever, and we will get through this. Eventually you will be able to resume all of your favorite activities that you love.

If you or someone you know is experiencing stress due to the pandemic, call or text Show Me Hope for 24/7 anonymous crisis counseling. We’re here to listen.
