TITLE: Behavioral Health Therapist and Educator
HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN WITH TRI-COUNTY: A little more than two years full-time, but six years part-time prior to that.
A few fun questions and answers with our very own Becky Franklin:
Who do you look up to and why? I look up to my grandma because she always valued family and had a way of making each individual feel special. She loved the holidays and honoring family traditions.
What’s your pet peeve? Interrupting – it seems disrespectful to either interrupt or turn away when someone is talking to you.
What’s your favorite Kansas City hangout or activity? Hmmm….probably either supporting the KC Chiefs or walking at Riverfront Park. It’s such a neat combination of a natural and urban backdrop.
Are you involved in any local organizations or charities or hobbies? I’m involved at church. Over the years, I have volunteered with youth discipleship programs and mission trips. In my younger years, I went on short-term mission trips to Mexico and helped serve as a translator. I would love to seek out further opportunities to do this again.
What does a perfect Saturday in Kansas City look like? Sleeping in and enjoying a slower pace marked by good coffee and fun family outings.
Tell me about an interesting brush with fame: I was a competitive gymnast for many years as a child and teen. Mary Lou Retton was my role model and I got to meet her at a neat event for young gymnasts. I got to take a picture with her too! I remember watching her Olympic winning vault over and over again.
Tell me something a lot of people don’t know about you – amazing truth! I am left-handed but do a lot of other things “right dominant” so I often joke that I am ambidextrous. I just like to keep people guessing! Also, I was only in middle school when I first took a psychology class. I loved it and decided that I wanted to be a therapist when I was part of a “Natural Helper” program.
If you could imagine doing something else for work besides what you do now, what would it be and why? Probably church ministry and outreach – perhaps a role related to missions. I love the Spanish language and doing life with other cultures. Using this to bring hope and comfort would be very meaningful and fulfilling.
What is your dream vacation? Anything with the beach. We would love to go to Hawaii someday.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Mexican! I enjoy anything from tacos, enchiladas, or fajitas.
What is one thing you can’t live without? Family and faith. Very thankful for both.
